Armed bandits reportedly attacked an Operation Burst base in a forest reserve along the Igbeti–Igboho axis of Oorelope Local Government Area of Oyo State early Sunday, setting fire to a block within the base and a patrol van.
The attack occurred between 5:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 13, 2026, according to a security update from the Oorelope Local Government Command.
The command said it received a distress call that armed men had invaded the security base, prompting the immediate mobilisation of Operation Burst operatives and personnel from other security agencies.
However, the reinforcement arrived after the attackers had fled the scene.
Preliminary findings indicated that the attackers allegedly stormed the base in large numbers and opened fire on security personnel with what the command described as powerful weapons.
The assailants were also suspected of attempting to overrun the base, kill the personnel stationed there and seize their weapons.
The security team subsequently combed the surrounding area in an effort to locate the fleeing attackers, but none was apprehended.
The command said no casualty was recorded during the attack.
It, however, disclosed that the attackers allegedly set fire to a block within the security base and a patrol van, destroying both facilities.
The Oorelope Local Government Command said further details would be released as investigations and security operations continued.
Efforts to obtain the reaction of the Commander of Operation Burst in Oyo State, Col. Olayinka Olayanju (rtd.), were unsuccessful, as the telephone numbers available for him could not be reached at the time of filing the report.
