Six political parties will contest Saturday’s Dawakin Kudu State Constituency by-election in Kano State, with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) absent from the race.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has cleared candidates of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), Action Peoples Party (APP), All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and People’s Redemption Party (PRP) to participate in the September 19 election.
The candidates are Bala Muhammad Sani of the ADP, Aliyu Abdullahi of the APP, Hussaini Yusuf Datti of the APC, Abubakar Yahaya Muhammad of the LP, Abdullahi Adamu of the PDP and Habibu Hamisu of the PRP.
The by-election is being conducted to fill the vacant Dawakin Kudu State Assembly seat following the exit of its former occupant, Rabiu Shuaibu, who left the Kano State House of Assembly to contest the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency seat.
Shuaibu subsequently won the federal constituency by-election in June, leaving the state assembly seat vacant.
INEC has scheduled the Dawakin Kudu State Constituency by-election for Saturday, September 19, alongside other legislative by-elections in Gombe, Bauchi and Delta states.
