The Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will win more than 20 states in the 2027 presidential election.
Yari also said the APC campaign organisation would be inaugurated on October 14, while the campaign would officially begin in Kaduna on October 24.
The former Zamfara State governor disclosed this after meeting Tinubu at the State House in Abuja, where they discussed plans for the campaign and visits to states across the country.
He said the President had approved the proposed campaign timetable, adding that details of the planned visits would be released after the inauguration.
“By God’s grace, on the 24th of October, we’re going to do our flag-off campaign in Kaduna,” Yari said.
He added that the campaign team would visit Port Harcourt in Rivers State and Maiduguri in Borno State after the Kaduna event.
Yari also dismissed the chances of opposition leaders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
He argued that winning the presidency required support from different parts of the country, rather than relying on one region.
The APC campaign chief questioned whether Atiku could win any state in southern Nigeria and claimed that Obi lacked control of any state in the North.
According to him, neither candidate could win the presidency without building support across the country.
Yari cited the 2011 presidential election, when former President Muhammadu Buhari received strong support in the North but lost the election, to support his argument.
He said Tinubu had support in more than 10 states in both the North and South, expressing confidence that the President would secure victory in 2027.
Yari also defended Tinubu’s performance since taking office, saying the APC would focus its campaign on the administration’s achievements rather than promises.
“President Bola Tinubu, since the time he assumed office, has turned around the situation that he met on ground; still, the economy is moving,” he said.
He added that the ruling party would continue to present its record to Nigerians as it seeks a second term for Tinubu.
