President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the inclusion of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) Colour (flag) in the National Parade Colour Party, in a move to recognise the Force’s institutional identity and contributions to national security.
It was gathered that the approval would give the Police Colour a place in the national ceremonial formation, symbolising the Force’s role in maintaining law and order, protecting lives and property, and safeguarding peace across the country.
The development is expected to reinforce the Nigeria Police Force’s standing among the country’s key security institutions and acknowledge the sacrifices of serving and retired officers.
The inclusion also highlights the complementary responsibilities of the Police, the Armed Forces and other security agencies in protecting Nigeria’s sovereignty, combating crime and responding to emerging security threats.
Beyond its ceremonial significance, the move is expected to promote institutional pride and unity among police personnel while recognising officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
It also presents an opportunity to encourage renewed commitment to professionalism, accountability, respect for human rights and service to the public.
The development comes under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and is expected to strengthen the Force’s institutional visibility and reinforce public recognition of its constitutional responsibilities.
The inclusion of the Police Colour in the national parade formation underscores the importance of cooperation among security institutions and the collective responsibility of safeguarding Nigeria’s peace, security and democracy.
