Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, and the Aliko Dangote Foundation have fulfilled their pledges to provide shares in Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals to 43,928 vulnerable women across the state’s 17 local government areas, meeting the October 27 payment deadline.
The initiative followed a proposal by the Secretary to the Yobe State Government, Dr Mohammed Goje, to Aliko Dangote on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York to expand investment opportunities for vulnerable women, particularly widows and those affected by conflict.
Under the arrangement, the Yobe State Government funded 10 shares for each beneficiary, while the Aliko Dangote Foundation provided an equivalent contribution, bringing each woman’s allocation to 20 shares, subject to applicable initial public offering (IPO) conditions and successful allotment.
The initiative is expected to promote financial inclusion and provide vulnerable women with opportunities for long-term asset ownership.
