The Plateau State Government has assured travellers of safety on the Jos-Barkin Ladi highway after an attack in Kassa, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, on Thursday left several people dead, urging residents to remain calm as security agencies work to apprehend the perpetrators and prevent further attacks.
The government condemned the attack and urged residents and travellers to remain calm and go about their lawful activities, saying security agencies had commenced efforts to apprehend those responsible and prevent further attacks.
In a press statement issued on Friday and signed by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Rt. Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap, the government described the incident as “deeply regrettable and unacceptable.”
The statement said the government commiserated with the families of the victims and assured residents of Kassa and the state that security agencies were taking necessary steps to apprehend the perpetrators.
It also urged families and communities affected by the incident to maintain peace and avoid blocking the road, warning that such action could put travellers at risk.
“The Government wishes to assure travellers that the road is clear and open to motorists and other road users. Citizens are therefore urged to go about their lawful activities without fear, while remaining vigilant and cooperating with security agencies,” the statement said.
The government said the administration of Governor Caleb Mutfwang remained committed to strengthening collaboration with security agencies and communities across the state to improve security and promote sustainable peace.
It also called on traditional, religious and community leaders, as well as other peace-loving citizens, to support efforts to prevent further escalation and maintain calm in Kassa, Barkin Ladi and other vulnerable communities.
