The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expelled two former members, Ganiyu Egunjobi and Azeez Yusuf, accusing them of anti-party activities, disloyalty and actions that undermined the party’s internal discipline.
The decision followed their participation in the APC primaries for Agege Constituencies I and II respectively during the 2026 Lagos State House of Assembly nomination process. Both men lost the party’s tickets and subsequently obtained tickets to contest on another political platform.
Lagos APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, announced the expulsion in a statement, saying the party considered their decision to seek alternative platforms after losing its primaries as a violation of their obligations as members.
He said the men’s purported resignations from the APC were made only after their actions had already attracted disciplinary consequences.
“The Party’s position is that membership of the APC cannot be treated as a convenient political garment to be worn during a primary and discarded immediately after an unsuccessful outcome,” Ojelabi said.
The chairman said APC members who lose nomination contests were expected either to accept the outcome or seek redress through the avenues provided by the party and the law.
He added that the party had relied on Article 9(5)(II) of the APC Constitution, as amended in 2022, in taking action against the two politicians.
According to Ojelabi, the development also comes against the backdrop of the 2026 electoral framework and the requirement for political parties and their members to comply with the Electoral Act and relevant electoral regulations.
He declared that Egunjobi and Yusuf no longer had any authority to represent the APC, negotiate on its behalf or conduct any business in the name of the party.
Ojelabi urged APC members, supporters, stakeholders and members of the public to take note of their status and refrain from dealing with either of them as representatives or authorised agents of the Lagos APC.
He said the party would continue to uphold its rules as preparations for the forthcoming elections intensify.
“The right to contest an election does not confer the right to sabotage the Party after losing its nomination process,” he said.
“The APC is a Party of rules. Its tickets are contested, its decisions are respected, and its integrity will be protected,” Ojelabi added.
