Nigerians living in Qatar have honoured Nigeria’s Ambassador to the country, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, for improved consular services following the delivery of new passports to hundreds of Nigerians within two weeks.
The award was presented at a ceremony organised by the Qatar chapter of the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO) to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
The beneficiaries described the two-week turnaround for passport delivery as a significant improvement in consular service, expressing satisfaction with the speed of the process.
Speaking at the event, Yakubu commended the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, for their support in facilitating the passport exercise.
He specifically appreciated both officials for the prompt deployment of an intervention team and the production of the passports, which enabled hundreds of Nigerians in Qatar to receive their travel documents within the period.
The ceremony was attended by the Executive Director of the Workers Support and Insurance Fund under Qatar’s Ministry of Interior, Ms Kholoud Saif Al Kubaisi, as well as members of the diplomatic community.
The recognition highlights the Nigerian community’s appreciation of efforts to improve passport processing and consular services for citizens living abroad.
