The Ogun State Government has taken Mistura Adebayo, a girl reportedly found wandering twice, into its custody and begun medical investigations to assess her health and determine the care and support she requires.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Adijat Adeleye, disclosed this in Abeokuta while addressing journalists on the government’s intervention.
Adeleye said the girl was first found wandering in the state several months ago and was reunited with her family after efforts by relevant authorities. However, she was reportedly found wandering again, prompting the government to take further action.
She said Mistura had been placed under the care of the ministry while officials worked to establish the circumstances surrounding her repeated disappearance and assess her physical and psychological wellbeing.
According to the commissioner, the medical assessment would help determine whether the girl required specialised treatment, counselling, rehabilitation or other forms of support.
She urged members of the public to provide useful information about the girl’s family and circumstances, while appealing to parents and guardians to pay close attention to the safety and welfare of children in their care.
Adeleye assured the public that the government would protect the girl’s rights and ensure that any necessary intervention was provided.
She also called on residents to report cases involving missing, abandoned or vulnerable children to the appropriate authorities rather than leaving them to fend for themselves.
