The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 33-year-old housewife, Hauwa’u Haruna, over the alleged killing of her co-wife, Jamila Adamu, at Tafawa Balewa Housing Estate, Bauchi.
The incident occurred on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at about 4:05 p.m., when the C-Division Police Station, Bauchi, received information about a domestic incident involving the two co-wives, who reside in the same household.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect, who is the second wife, allegedly armed herself with a pestle and struck her 43-year-old co-wife on the forehead during the incident.
Habib said the victim fell unconscious following the assault.
He said detectives attached to the C-Division immediately mobilised to the scene, documented the incident and rushed the victim to the Specialist Hospital, Bauchi, where she was pronounced dead by a medical doctor.
The deceased’s remains have been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy, while the suspect was arrested and the alleged weapon, a pestle, recovered as an exhibit.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner condoled with the family of the deceased and urged members of the public to avoid domestic violence and seek timely intervention whenever conflicts arise within families.
CP Aliyu also advised families to seek appropriate medical and psychosocial support for persons exhibiting signs of mental or psychological distress, stressing the importance of early intervention in preventing tragic incidents.
