Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have killed six suspected terrorists and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition after repelling an attack by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters on a military base in Adamawa State.
The terrorists reportedly targeted the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Garaha in Hong Local Government Area at about 9:07 pm, advancing on foot from the LAR axis in an attempt to overrun the military position.
The Acting Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force, North East, Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
He said the troops responded with superior firepower and tactical coordination, forcing the attackers to retreat.
“Subsequent exploitation of the area led to the discovery of six terrorist corpses, confirming the neutralisation of six insurgents,” Goni said.
Items recovered from the scene included one PKT machine gun with three ammunition belts containing 67 rounds, six AK-47 rifles, 11 AK-47 magazines, 157 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, 120 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and one 60mm mortar bomb.
The troops also recovered an Infinix Android phone, a Canon portable video recorder, three camelback water bags, a magazine carrier and assorted clothing.
However, Goni disclosed that troops sustained casualties during the encounter, adding that the wounded personnel were receiving medical attention while evacuation arrangements were ongoing.
He said troops had intensified surveillance and continued operations around the area to prevent further attacks and recover additional items of operational significance.
“The successful repulsion of the attack underscores the combat readiness, resilience and determination of Operation HADIN KAI troops to defend their positions, frustrate terrorist offensives and progressively degrade insurgent capabilities across the North East,” he said.
Goni added that the Theatre Command remained committed to intelligence-driven operations aimed at denying terrorists freedom of action, protecting vulnerable communities and strengthening efforts to restore lasting peace and security across the region.
