Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have rescued 12 civilians in two separate operations in Zamfara State, freeing six kidnapped victims and foiling an attempt to abduct another six civilians.

The operations were conducted on September 7 in Kaura Namoda and Tsafe Local Government Areas of the state.

Media Information Officer of Operation Fansan Yamma, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement yesterday.

Danja said the first incident occurred at Tsohon Tasha in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, where troops responded to a distress call following the infiltration of terrorists into a residence.

He said the troops engaged the terrorists, forcing them to abandon six civilians they had already abducted and flee across a nearby river.

The six victims were subsequently evacuated and reunited with their families.

In a separate operation in Tsafe Local Government Area, troops monitoring terrorist activities along the Main Supply Route spotted terrorists attempting to intercept a Sharon vehicle at Kwanoni Village.

Danja said the troops swiftly mobilised to the location and engaged the terrorists, forcing them to abandon the attempted abduction and withdraw into an adjoining bush.

Six civilians were subsequently rescued from the scene, he added.

“Troops swiftly mobilised to the location, and engaged the terrorists, forcing them to abort their attempt and withdraw into the adjoining bush,” Danja said.

He said the operations demonstrated the troops’ commitment to protecting lives and property while disrupting terrorist activities and denying them freedom of action across the Joint Operations Area.

Danja urged members of the public to continue providing security agencies with timely and relevant information to support ongoing efforts to eliminate terrorist elements in the area.

“Operation Fansan Yamma urges the general public to continue to support security agencies with relevant information to enable the Theatre eradicate terrorist elements within the Joint Operations Area,” he said.
