The Uratta Development Union (UDU), Women’s Wing, Lagos Branch, has honoured Mrs Nkechi Nnosike with the title of Ada Ri Oha Mma I of Ndom Uratta, in recognition of her contributions to her family and community.
Nnosike received the award at the association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), held in Oshodi, Lagos, where outstanding women were recognised for their lifestyles, family relationships and positive contributions to society.
Speaking after receiving the honour, Nnosike expressed gratitude to God and the organisers, describing the recognition as unexpected and an encouragement to continue doing good.
“I am happy to be one of the award recipients. I believe that what God cannot do does not exist, and I honestly did not expect this recognition,” she said.
She pledged to sustain her efforts, describing the award as the beginning of greater achievements.
“I will not stop doing the good work that God has placed in my heart. This is only the beginning,” she said.
Nnosike encouraged women who were not recognised at the event not to feel discouraged, noting that everyone had a time for recognition. She urged them to remain committed to doing good, adding that people’s conduct and contributions to society could eventually earn them recognition.
She also called on fellow award recipients to see the honour as motivation to contribute more to their families and communities.
She prayed for God’s blessings on the organisers and others who contributed to the success of the ceremony.
The award recipient further urged the people of Uratta to remain committed to the community’s progress and continue working towards its development.
Earlier in her remarks, the President-General of the Uratta Development Union (UDU), Women’s Wing, Lagos Branch, Princess Mrs Nkechi Thompson, explained that the association considered personal conduct, family relationships and contributions to society when selecting award recipients.
Thompson said the awards were intended to appreciate women whose lifestyles and actions had positively influenced their families and communities.
“We recognise people based on their lifestyles, their contributions to society, their relationships with their husbands and children, and their impact on the community,” Thompson said.
She urged the award recipients to regard the recognition as a call to greater service by using their opportunities and influence to empower others.
She also prayed for God’s continued blessings and protection for the recipients, expressing hope that they would receive more opportunities to make meaningful contributions to society.
Speaking on the purpose of the AGM, she said the gathering provided an opportunity for members to review the association’s activities, assess their progress and renew their commitment to the development of Uratta.
She encouraged women to participate actively in the association’s programmes, noting that their involvement was essential to achieving its objectives and improving members’ welfare.
Reaffirming her commitment to the association, Mrs Thompson said her administration would continue to pursue opportunities for women’s empowerment, improved welfare and meaningful development.
“We are committed to building a stronger, more united, peaceful and progressive union where every woman feels valued, respected, embraced and supported,” she said.
She urged members to support one another, assist women in need and encourage their husbands to participate in activities that promote the community’s progress.
Thompson also called on members to resolve misunderstandings promptly and maintain healthy relationships, stressing that cooperation between husbands and wives and among members was important to the association’s success.
She pledged to continue working with the executives and members to advance the union’s objectives and create greater opportunities for women.
The AGM ended with a call for sustained participation in the association’s activities and renewed commitment to the welfare of members and the development of the wider Uratta community.
