The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old ex-convict, Chidera Anthony Eleh, popularly known as Timaya, over alleged robberies targeting Point-of-Sale (POS) operators and other residents in Awka.

The suspect was arrested on Friday, October 9, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation.

Police operatives reportedly recovered a motorcycle, an axe, a cutlass and other items suspected to be linked to the alleged crimes.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement, saying the arrest was part of efforts to tackle robbery and other crimes involving motorcycle riders.

He said the suspect was in police custody while investigations continued to determine his level of involvement and identify other suspected accomplices.

Ikenga quoted the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, as reaffirming the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring that anyone found guilty of a crime was brought to justice in line with the law.

The police also urged POS operators, commercial motorcycle riders and other business owners to remain alert and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

The command said further updates would be provided as investigations continued and weekend patrols began.
