The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a suspected military impostor, identified as Akinola Damilare, popularly known as “General Don”, over alleged impersonation of military personnel.
The suspect was arrested at about 2am on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at Kajola, Elega, Abeokuta, following intelligence provided by a community leader and surveillance by operatives of the command’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit.
Items recovered from him included a military face cap, three-quarter military trousers and four photographs allegedly showing him dressed in military uniform.
The command disclosed the arrest in a statement issued by its Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni.
According to the statement, the arrest followed credible intelligence received from a community leader, prompting the deployment of SWAT operatives to monitor and apprehend the suspect.
“The suspect was arrested at about 2:00 a.m. on 3rd November 2026 at Kajola, Elega, Abeokuta, following credible intelligence from a community leader and discreet surveillance by operatives of the Command’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit,” the statement read.
The police said the recovered items would form part of the ongoing investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged impersonation.
The Commissioner of Police, Ojajuni, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling impersonation and other criminal activities across the state.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies, stressing that public cooperation remained crucial to crime prevention and detection.
