The Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited (NDPHC) has commenced a power infrastructure project aimed at ending nearly 15 years of inadequate electricity supply in Rigasa community, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The project comprises a two-kilometre 11kV power line, a 1.5-kilometre 33kV line and a 7.5MVA, 33/11kV injection substation designed to improve electricity distribution to households, businesses and other users in the community.
The groundbreaking ceremony, held on Friday, October 23, 2026, was performed by the Kaduna State Deputy Governor, Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, who represented Governor Uba Sani.
Balarabe commended NDPHC for the intervention, describing it as a significant relief for residents who have endured years of electricity supply challenges.
The project was facilitated by the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Ideological Group (BAT-IG), following sustained advocacy by its convener, Comrade Bamidele Atoyebi, who brought the community’s electricity challenges to the attention of NDPHC Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Jennifer Adighije.
Speaking through the Executive Director, Networks, Engr. Bello Babayo Bello, Adighije reaffirmed the company’s commitment to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s drive to improve electricity supply across Nigeria.
“Although NDPHC is primarily a power generation company, our interventions extend across the electricity value chain, including transmission and distribution, to address critical infrastructure gaps and expand access,” she said.
According to her, the Rigasa project would help ease residents’ hardship and demonstrate the importance of targeted investments in electricity infrastructure.
The project is expected to strengthen the local distribution network, improve electricity access for households and businesses, and support economic activities in the densely populated community.
In his vote of thanks, NDPHC Executive Director, Strategy and Commercial, Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon, appreciated the Kaduna State Government and residents for their cooperation and support for the initiative.
The District Head of Rigasa, Hakimi Arc. Mohammed Aminu Idris, also commended the NDPHC management for its commitment to improving electricity access in the area.
Other dignitaries at the ceremony included former Senator Shehu Sani and the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company, Dr. Umar Abubakar Hashidu, alongside government officials, industry stakeholders and community representatives.
NDPHC General Manager, Distribution, Engr. Dahiru Muritala Mohammed, whose department is responsible for the project, was also present.
The intervention is expected to improve power distribution capacity in Rigasa, reduce the burden of unreliable electricity on residents and businesses, and contribute to the community’s socioeconomic development.
