The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 43-year-old man, Edebiri Temitope, over the death of a 38-year-old university graduate, Oje Michael Eje, in Mowe, Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of the state.
Eje, who reportedly studied Guidance and Counselling, was allegedly attacked by Temitope following a disagreement over his interaction with the suspect’s three-year-old child.
The police said the incident occurred after Eje was allegedly seen hugging and playing with the child, an action the suspect reportedly considered too rough.
According to the command, Temitope allegedly picked up a bamboo stick and struck Eje several times during the confrontation, causing him to collapse and die.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Seyi Babaseyi, had initially disclosed that the suspect fled the area with his family after the incident.
However, in a subsequent statement, Babaseyi confirmed that the suspect had been arrested.
“Edebiri Temitope, ‘M’, aged 43 years, who was earlier reported to be at large, has been arrested in connection with the death of Oje Michael Eje, ‘M’,” the police spokesman said.
He added that the suspect had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, where investigators would continue probing the circumstances surrounding Eje’s death.
The police said further investigation would determine the events leading to the death, while the suspect would be subjected to further questioning as the case progresses.
