Hospital Management Committees have been assured of the Lagos State Health Service Commission’s, HSC’s, readiness to listen to their concerns and support them in achieving their hospitals’ vision and mission.
The assurance was given by Commissioner Three of the Commission, Dr Moyosore Wuraola Adejumo, during a familiarisation and monitoring visit to the Maternal and Child Care Hospital, Amuwo-Odofin.
“We are here to give you a voice at the Commission level”.
She said the Commission was committed to supporting hospitals in providing quality healthcare services to Lagos residents.
“We have come to find out how you are doing and to support you in achieving your objectives”.
Adejumo commended the hospital’s management and Medical Director/Chief Executive Officer, Dr Dokun Babalola Ogungbemile, for the improvements recorded at the facility.
She also praised the state government for its commitment to the health sector despite the pressure on healthcare infrastructure arising from Lagos State’s growing population.
On the shortage of healthcare personnel, Adejumo said the challenge affected healthcare facilities across the state, adding that the government was addressing the japa syndrome to prevent its adverse effects on service delivery.
She urged the hospital’s management to prioritise staff welfare, noting that adequate attention to workers’ needs would encourage better performance.
The Commissioner also cautioned the management and staff against the Ebola threat, urging them to take necessary precautions and remain prepared for any eventuality.
She appreciated the staff, on behalf of the state government and the Commission, for their continued efforts in providing quality healthcare services to patients.
Adejumo further encouraged the management to engage friends of the hospital and philanthropists to attract additional support for the facility.
Responding, the Medical Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Ogungbemile, said the hospital recognised the contributions of its friends, particularly during its annual New Year party celebration.
He explained that the management provided a conducive working environment to ensure that staff members felt valued and had a sense of belonging.
“We have a support system in place to assist our officers in their hours of need, including weddings and other important occasions,” he said.
On Ebola preparedness, Ogungbemile disclosed that the hospital had established a statutory committee to coordinate preventive measures and respond to any outbreak.
“The committee is already on alert to combat the disease if and when it breaks out,” he said.
The visit formed part of the Commission’s efforts to monitor hospital operations, identify areas requiring support and strengthen healthcare delivery across Lagos State.
