The Lagos State Government, through Health District Three, has intensified efforts to improve the quality of healthcare delivery across Primary Healthcare Centres, PHCs, in Ibeju-Lekki, Eti-Osa and Epe through a comprehensive monitoring exercise under the Quality Improvement Programme, QIP.
The Permanent Secretary, Health District III, Dr. Monsurat Adeleke, made this known at Igboefon, Primary Healthcare Centre, PHC, Eti-Osa LGA at the end of a Five-day Fourth Quarter Monitoring Exercise conducted across PHCs in the district added that the exercise was designed to assess service delivery standards, identify operational gaps and promote continuous improvement in the quality of healthcare services at the grassroots level.
She stated that the assessment covered several critical service delivery areas in each facility which includes Medical Services, Nursing Services, Pharmaceutical Services, Community Health Services, Laboratory Services, Medical Records Services, Environmental Health Services among others stressed that the exercise was essential for ensuring compliance with established standards and strengthening the delivery of effective, patient-centred healthcare.
She expressed satisfaction with the findings, noting that the facilities had functional Ward Health Committees, Health Facility Management Teams and Quality Assurance Teams and described these structures as vital to effective facility management, community participation, accountability and the continuous improvement of healthcare services.
She further disclosed that family planning commodities, vaccines and essential medicines were adequately stocked across the facilities and also mentioned that most centres had implemented recommendations from previous Quality Assurance visits, indicating progress in accountability, service delivery and adherence to quality improvement measures.
According to her, the Lagos State Government remains committed to strengthening primary healthcare through sustained investment in infrastructure, personnel, medical equipment and essential commodities.
”The regular monitoring and evaluation exercise would continue to ensure that PHCs provide safe, affordable and quality healthcare services to residents within their communities.
The Permanent Secretary urged residents to take ownership of PHCs in their communities by protecting public health assets, supporting health programmes and utilising available services while emphasising that community participation, alongside the government’s commitment to healthcare development, was crucial to building a healthier and more resilient Lagos.
The exercise forms part of the state government’s broader efforts to strengthen the primary healthcare system, improve service delivery standards and ensure that residents across Ibeju-Lekki, Eti-Osa and Epe have access to quality, efficient and reliable healthcare services.
