The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has confirmed that two suspected Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) cases in Adamawa State tested negative after two rounds of laboratory testing.

The agency said the individuals, who presented with symptoms suggestive of Ebola in Yola, were isolated while investigations and other public health measures were initiated.

In a press statement dated October 31, 2026, the NCDC Director-General, Dr Jide Idris, said the report was received by the Adamawa State Public Health Emergency Operations Centre in the early hours of October 30.

Samples were collected from the individuals to determine the cause of their illness.

“Fortunately, the samples turned out negative for EBV after two rounds of testing,” Idris said.

He stressed that there was no laboratory-confirmed Ebola case in Adamawa State, adding that the previously confirmed case in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) remained the only confirmed case reported in Nigeria.

“At this juncture, I wish to commend the efforts of the Adamawa State’s Commissioner for Health and his team for their proactive approach. NCDC will continue to provide appropriate technical support to the Adamawa State Government to strengthen their response operations,” he said.

The suspected cases had triggered public health investigations amid heightened vigilance following the confirmation of a Bundibugyo Ebola case in Abuja involving a traveller who arrived from Uganda.

The NCDC urged Nigerians to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information about the situation.

“We urge members of the public to remain calm and avoid sharing unverified information or speculation about the situation. The public is encouraged to obtain information from official government and public health communication channels,” Idris said.

He, however, advised Nigerians to remain vigilant, noting that Ebola was a serious infectious disease requiring early detection, appropriate clinical management and effective infection prevention and control measures.

According to him, anyone experiencing symptoms such as fever, severe weakness, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhoea or unexplained bleeding, particularly following a possible exposure, should seek immediate medical attention and inform healthcare workers of any relevant travel or contact history.

“Individuals should avoid self-medication and follow the advice of healthcare professionals,” he added.

Idris said the NCDC would continue working with the Adamawa State Government and other stakeholders to monitor the situation and provide updates as verified information became available.

He reaffirmed the commitment of public health authorities to protecting Nigerians through early detection, evidence-based interventions, transparent communication and a coordinated national response.
