The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State has urged its supporters to shun insults and personal attacks ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that political campaigns should focus on policies, programmes and issues affecting the electorate.
The party’s governorship candidate, Mustapha Sule Lamido, made the call at a meeting with PDP social media supporters and political commentators in the state, where he urged them to embrace responsible political communication and peaceful engagement.
Lamido said political campaigns should be driven by ideas capable of winning public confidence rather than abusive language and attacks on individuals.
“Political campaigns should focus on issues, policies and programmes that can convince the electorate, not insults or attacks on individuals,” he said.
He explained that the meeting was organised to sensitise youths on responsible use of social media and their role in promoting the party’s programmes and candidates ahead of the elections.
The governorship candidate urged supporters to use their online platforms to communicate the PDP’s policies, engage constructively with opposing views and contribute to a peaceful political atmosphere.
Lamido also disclosed that the party had completed arrangements to commence campaign activities across Jigawa State.
He reaffirmed the PDP’s commitment to peaceful and orderly campaign tours, warning against conduct capable of provoking tension or disrupting public peace.
“We are committed to peaceful campaigns across Jigawa State, and we urge our supporters to avoid anything that could create tension or disrupt public peace,” he said.
Lamido appreciated the people of Jigawa State for their continued support for the party and urged them to sustain their confidence in the PDP as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
