Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Professor Kingsley Moghalu, has distanced himself from a policy team unveiled by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, saying he was neither consulted nor gave consent for his name to be included.
Moghalu, in a press statement posted on his Facebook page, said he was surprised to see his name listed among members of the policy team for Atiku’s 2027 presidential campaign.
“I was not consulted and did not give my consent to my name being published as a member of the ADC candidate’s policy team,” he said.
The former CBN deputy governor categorically stated that he was not a member of Atiku’s policy team “even unofficially or in any advisory capacity.”
Moghalu further disclosed that he had withdrawn from partisan politics in Nigeria since 2022 and had maintained a strictly non-partisan position in national affairs.
“I am not a member or sympathizer of any political party in Nigeria,” he stated.
He explained that his current engagements include serving as President of the Institute for Governance and Economic Transformation (IGET Africa), which he described as a non-partisan public policy think tank and executive education academy.
He is also the Chief Executive Officer of Sogato Strategies, a geopolitical risk and regulatory strategy advisory firm.
Moghalu stressed that his decision to remain outside partisan politics should not be interpreted as a lack of commitment to Nigeria’s development.
“I remain committed to my country, Nigeria and its progress, but such commitment does not have to entail ANY partisan alignment. I have adopted the path of statesmanship, not partisanship,” he said.
The clarification comes amid political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, with political parties and prospective presidential candidates assembling policy, campaign and advisory structures.
Moghalu, who served as a Deputy Governor of the CBN from 2009 to 2014, was also a presidential candidate in the 2019 general election under the Young Progressive Party, YPP.
