Travellers arriving in Nigeria from countries with active or relevant Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) transmission may now be required to complete health declaration forms as part of measures to prevent the importation and spread of the disease.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) announced this in an Interim Public Health Advisory dated September 22, 2026, signed by its Director-General, Dr Jide Idris.
The measure follows the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the NCDC’s latest assessment of the risk to Nigeria.
The agency said passengers arriving from other countries are exempt from completing the form for now, while travellers from countries considered to have active or relevant EVD transmission may be subjected to the requirement.
NCDC also urged Nigerians to remain alert for symptoms associated with Ebola and to seek medical attention promptly if symptoms develop, particularly where there is a relevant travel or exposure history.
The agency said Nigeria remains on high alert, with preparedness activities continuing as the situation evolves.
“These measures will continue to be reviewed in line with the evolving epidemiological situation and public health risk assessment,” the NCDC said.
The health agency said the declaration forms are part of enhanced surveillance and follow-up measures designed to detect potential cases early and reduce the risk of the disease spreading within the country.
The advisory was copied to the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Port Health Services, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, state ministries of health, the World Health Organisation and Africa CDC.
