The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has called on the government to deliver the benefits of democracy to Nigerians, saying citizens deserve relief from economic hardship, insecurity and unfulfilled promises.
The party made the call as Nigeria marked its 66th Independence Anniversary, urging a reset of the country’s governance system.
In a statement by its National Chairman, Dr Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, APM said Nigerians had continued to demonstrate resilience despite persistent political, economic and social challenges.
“Citizens deserve a fair deal from the government they voted into office. They need dividends of democracy, not carnage,” Dantalle said.
He described the 2027 general election as another opportunity for Nigerians to elect leaders committed to national interest and addressing insecurity and economic difficulties.
“The era of gambling with our national destiny is over. It is what puts us in this governance quagmire of perennial insecurity and economic hardship,” he said.
APM urged electoral stakeholders to ensure credible and transparent elections in 2027 and respect the choices of voters.
The party also paid tribute to Nigeria’s founding fathers for securing independence from Britain on October 1, 1960, saying the country’s unity in diversity remained worth protecting.
It lamented that Nigerians continued to face severe hardship despite the nation’s abundant human and natural resources, describing the situation as inconsistent with the promise of democracy.
APM said it was committed to redirecting the country towards progress and development, urging Nigerians to join its Reset Nigeria Movement and support its candidates in the 2027 elections.
