The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested four suspects in separate cases involving illegal firearms and alleged rape.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu.
Habib said three suspects were arrested in Misau Local Government Area over the alleged possession and fabrication of locally made firearms.
He said one of the suspects, 30-year-old Abubakar Ahmad, was arrested on September 25 while allegedly carrying a locally fabricated pistol loaded with a live cartridge.
According to him, the suspect was allegedly trying to deliver the weapon to Tijjani Yakubu, 35, who was already in custody over other offences.
The police said further investigation led to the arrest of a 48-year-old welder, Bappah Kawu, who allegedly admitted fabricating and selling the pistol for N30,000.
Police said two locally made dane guns and tools allegedly used for firearm production were recovered from his workshop.
The three suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
In a separate case, police arrested 26-year-old Lukman Alhaji Nasiru over the alleged rape of a 50-year-old mentally ill woman in Gamawa LGA.
The suspect was arrested after the victim’s brother reported the incident to the police.
The command said the victim and suspect were taken to General Hospital, Gamawa, for medical examination, while investigation continued.
The commissioner warned against illegal firearm activities and sexual offences, urging residents to provide useful information to the police.
