Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress, NDC, Mr Peter Obi, on Tuesday arrived in Jos, Plateau State, ahead of a solidarity visit to communities in Mangu Local Government Area affected by recent deadly attacks.
Obi arrived at the Yakubu Gowon Airport, Heipang, where he was received by Plateau State executives and chieftains of the NDC, alongside party supporters and other stakeholders.
The former Anambra State governor is expected to proceed to Mangu to meet victims and families affected by the attacks, interact with community leaders and hear firsthand accounts of the security situation in the area.
The visit is also expected to provide Obi an opportunity to commiserate with families who lost loved ones, engage survivors and assess the impact of the violence on affected communities.
He is expected to use the visit to draw attention to the continuing security challenges confronting vulnerable communities in Plateau State and the need for stronger measures to protect lives and property.
Obi is also expected to call for sustained support for victims and displaced residents, while urging relevant authorities to intensify efforts to prevent further attacks.
The visit comes amid renewed concerns over recurring violence in parts of Plateau State, with residents and stakeholders demanding urgent and effective security measures to safeguard communities.
The NDC presidential candidate is expected to conclude his engagement in Mangu after meeting affected residents, traditional and community leaders, as well as other stakeholders on the ground.
