A 100-level female student of Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos, who was abducted by gunmen in the university community, has regained her freedom following a security operation.
The student was kidnapped on Saturday night at an off-campus student residential area in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, while another person was shot and injured during the attack.
Confirming her release on Tuesday, the Acting Public Relations Officer of the university, Masara Kim, said the student was abandoned by her abductors after a joint security team launched an operation in response to the incident.
According to him, the operation forced the gunmen to flee when they sighted the advancing security personnel, leading to the recovery of the student.
“She was abandoned by her captors after the university, in collaboration with a joint security team, launched an operation that forced them to flee on sighting the advancing team,” Kim said.
He said the rescued student was subsequently taken to a hospital for medical examination and was receiving medical attention.
Kim added that the university was working with security agencies to strengthen security within and around the institution to protect students and staff.
He also expressed appreciation to the security personnel involved in the operation for their response to the incident.
However, efforts to obtain further details from security operatives were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
