The Lagos State Government, through Health District III, has distributed eyeglasses to students identified with vision problems during a screening exercise to improve their vision and enhance their learning experience.

Speaking during the distribution ceremony held recently at Falomo Senior and Junior High School as well as Ireti Senior and Junior Grammar School, Falomo, Ikoyi, to commemorate the 2026 World Sight Day, the Permanent Secretary, Health District III, Dr. Monsurat Adeleke, said good eyesight was essential to children’s education, development and overall well-being.

Adeleke encouraged the beneficiaries to wear their glasses confidently and take proper care of them. She also urged teachers to identify students experiencing vision difficulties and encourage them to seek timely medical attention, noting that early detection and appropriate intervention could help students participate more effectively in classroom activities.

“I would like to reaffirm the District’s commitment to promoting children’s health through school-based interventions and preventive healthcare services.

“Also, I want to encourage everyone to prioritise their eye health, because clearer vision supports better learning and brighter futures for the children,” she said.

In her response, an Education Officer at Falomo Junior High School, Mrs. Veronica Ojimadu, expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government for the intervention and promised to encourage the pupils to use the glasses wisely and avoid handling them carelessly. She also urged parents to support the proper care of the glasses at home.

Similarly, an SS2 student of Ireti Senior Grammar School, Master Solomon Richard, thanked the government for the gesture and said the intervention would make him a good ambassador for promoting the importance of proper eye care.
