The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has identified two suspected cases of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in the North-East, with the affected individuals placed in isolation as authorities intensify investigations to determine their infection status.
The development comes amid heightened public health concerns following the confirmation of a case of Bundibugyo Ebola Virus Disease in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
In an update on Saturday, the NCDC disclosed that contact identification and listing were already underway, while laboratory investigations were being conducted to establish whether the two suspected cases were infected with the virus.
The agency, however, cautioned against premature conclusions, stressing that classification as suspected cases did not mean the individuals had tested positive for Ebola.
It explained that their infection status would only be established following laboratory confirmation.
The NCDC urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and maintain good hand hygiene, practise improved sanitation and adhere to public health guidance as surveillance and response activities continue.
The agency assured the public that further updates would be communicated as verified information becomes available.
